Turbine would ‘spoil’ headland

A RESIDENTS group is being set up to fight the latest proposal for a wind turbine on one of the East Coast’s most famous landmarks.

An application has been submitted for a 34m turbine at Hartendale Farm between Danes Dyke and South Landing at Flamborough Head.

Those against the turbine – close to two nature reserves – have taken heart from a High Court ruling last week which saw a High Court judge block plans for a wind farm on the edge of the Norfolk Broads National Park, saying government renewable energy targets do not have ‘primacy’ over local conservation policies.

Andrew Barden, who is setting up the group, said: “Flamborough Head is a heritage headland as designated by Natural England and we see this as industrialisation of a beautiful coastline which is vital to East Coast tourism.”
