United’s season tickets went on sale in April and thousands of supporters showed their loyalty to the cause by making purchases before an initial price-freeze deadline at the end of May.
But although some fans received their tickets through the post in plenty of time for this Saturday’s opening home fixture against Birmingham City, others were last night still waiting for them to turn up.
A story published on United’s website on May 10 said: “Season cards will be dispatched approximately two weeks before the first home [league game].”
The uncertainty has seen the club strongly criticised on social media, with Josh Timlin tweeting yesterday: “Ludicrous that you’re sending them out this late. Three days away from the opening home game and some still haven’t got them.”
Tweeting earlier in the week, John Silkstone said: “I renewed mid May and haven’t received my ticket. The club is a joke. Complete shambles.”
United last night apologised for the delay, blaming a “manufacturing problem” experienced by their ticket supplier.
They said that, at close of play on Tuesday, all season cards bought by 10.20am on August 1 had been sent by first class post.
People who made purchases after 10.20am on August 1 will receive paper match tickets for the club’s first two home fixtures, with season cards proper to follow in time for the visit of Huddersfield Town on September 10. Leeds have sold 14,300 season tickets, the highest number in 12 years.
