Two arrests after ‘dispute’ at Sikh temple

TWO men have been arrested following an “internal dispute” at a Sikh temple in Hull.

A worshipper claimed about eight Sikhs from outside the area carrying ceremonial swords visited the temple in Parkfield Drive on Saturday and attempted to hold the priest hostage.

Police attended and two men from the Hull area, aged 58 and 36, were arrested the following day.

The fallout at the temple is understood to have been sparked by plans to allow a holy book to be taken out for a wedding.

The worshipper said: “I’m ashamed. It’s a small town and there’s only one temple, this commotion shouldn’t happen here.”

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “We were made aware of an internal dispute at the temple, we made inquiries and as a result we arrested two people.”
