Two honoured for decades of '˜inspirational' work in Leeds

The awards were presented to Dr Simon Lindley and Ken Reid at a civic ceremony.

Dr Lindley was Master of Music at Leeds Minster from 1975 to September this year and was organist and director of the minster’s choir.

He is director of St Peter’s singers and organist at Leeds Town Hall.

Ken Reid, head of faculty for creative arts and deputy principle at Leeds City College, has worked in Leeds for more than 35 years.

Mr Reid has won praise for his work to extend opportunities of further education to all and for creating opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

Lord Mayor of Leeds Coun Gerry Harper, said: “Their commitment to others through their work is inspirational and there is no doubt that they made a difference to thousands of lives.”

Mr Reid said: “I feel humbled to be given a Leeds Award, and to think I have left even a little mark on the city is remarkable.”

Dr Lindley said: “This would not have happened without the support and amazing work of my colleagues.”
