Stephen Rodgers and Nathan Wingfield both pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 42-year-old Tyron Woodhead at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday.

Mr Woodhead died in Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital just over a month after being shot in the stomach at his home in Doncaster Road, Wath-Upon-Dearne, Rotherham, in September last year.

Rodgers, 30, received a 21-year term for manslaughter while Wingfield, 23, was jailed for 20 years for manslaughter and five years for robbery.

Both men are from the Rotherham area but of no fixed address.

The court heard the killing happened as the men took part in a botched robbery at Mr Woodhead’s home. Mr Woodhead was shot on September 20 and died of his injuries on October 24.

Speaking after yesterday’s sentencing, Detective Superintendent Matt Fenwick said: “This case shows exactly how criminal acts, particularly involving the use of violence, can go so very wrong.

“I would like to thank the Woodhead family and the local community for the strength and support that they have shown through this difficult and traumatic time.”

Mr Woodhead’s family were too upset to make a comment after the hearing.
