Two released as officers investigate ‘unexplained’ death near Hull tower block

POLICE are treating the death of a man in Hull as unexplained after his body was found at the bottom of the high rise block of flats where he lived.

The man, who has not been named, is believed to be 54 years old and was found dead on a footpath outside Ashthorpe flats on the city’s Orchard Park Estate just after 6am yesterday. His family have been informed.

Officers initially said the death was suspicious and arrested a 61-year-old woman and a man aged 54 in connection with the incident, but they have now been released unconditionally after being questioned.

A white tent was placed around the body, which was lying next to a hedge and a lamppost, about 15 feet from the block of flats. The area was cordoned off while scenes of crimes officers and detectives began their investigation, which is ongoing.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “Evidence gathered so far suggests the death is no longer suspicious, instead it is being treated as unexplained.

“The man has not yet been formally identified but he is believed to be a 54-year-old man who was a resident at the flats and his next of kin has been informed of the death.

“Police will now be compiling a file for submission to HM Coroner and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.”
