Two teenage brothers from Dewsbury missing at sea near Blackpool are named

Two teenagers from Dewsbury have gone missing at sea while visiting Blackpool.

UPDATE: Police have now named the missing teenagers as brothers Muhammad and Ali Shabbir, 18, and 16, from Dewsbury. The Coastguard has recovered two bodies that are believed to be theirs.

The boys, 18 and 16, were swimming near St Anne's Pier at Fylde when they disappeared on Saturday evening. Their 15-year-old friend managed to reach the shore and is being treated in hospital for hypothermia.

The RNLI and Coastguard were called to reports of three swimmers in difficulty and continued the search and rescue operation this morning.

A police helicopter is also at the scene.

Lancashire Constabulary said: "Searches for a man, 18, and a boy, 16, who got into difficulty in water close to St Anne's Pier yesterday evening have resumed.

"We were called at just before 6.55pm to a concern for their safety. A 15-year-old boy managed to swim to the shore, he remains in hospital.

"Our HM Coastguard and RNLI colleagues searched the water well into the night.

"They have been able to start looking again this morning and the police helicopter will soon also join the search. We will continue to offer our support.

"Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the missing man and boy who are from Dewsbury."

The pier is located at Lytham St Anne's, a resort town close to Blackpool on the same stretch of coast.
