Two youths in court over Leeds city centre rape

TWO teenagers of Afghanistani origin have appeared in court charged with the rape of a young woman in Leeds city centre last week.

The youths, both aged 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Leeds Youth Court yesterday after they were arrested and charged with offences of rape and kidnap.

The court heard that the charges related to an alleged attack on a 22-year-old woman on Fish Street, Leeds, last Monday, June 13 at around 2am.

She had been on a night out in Leeds on the night of the alleged attack, the court heard.

The defendants, who both live in the Leeds area, sat in silence during the 30 minute hearing which was related to them through an interpreter.

As details of the alleged incident were read out to the court, one of the two sat with his head in his hands.

Both were remanded in custody yesterday to appear again at a later date.
