Adlington takes the plunge with love
of her life

Olympic swimming champion Rebecca Adlington has married.

The medal-winning star tied the knot with fellow swimmer Harry Needs and called him “the love of my life”.

Adlington, who won two golds at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and a pair of bronzes at London 2012, was a contestant on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here last year.

In an interview with Hello! magazine she said: “I lost nearly two stone in the jungle and perhaps another four or five pounds since then. So it was a great kick start, and I feel better for it.

“But I don’t like it when people assume you’re really happy because you’re thin,” Adlington added.

“I’m not suddenly confident because I have lost weight, I’m happy because I’m marrying the love of my life.”

Adlington came sixth on the show and attributes her taking part in the programme for helping her get into shape for her big day.

She married Needs at rural wedding venue The Ashes set in 50 acres of Staffordshire countryside and she wore a Stewart Parvin dress for the ceremony, for which they wrote their own vows.

“The ceremony was so personal, which was exactly what we wanted,” she said.

Adlington, who is from Mansfield and attended The Brunts School, went on: “I love the fact Harry was in bits before I even reached him.

“I was a bit nervous in the
car on the way here with my
dad, but as soon as I walked in, my nerves melted and I relaxed. The room was just so full
of love.”

Needs said: “I compliment her every single day, because to me she is the most beautiful woman in the world.”
