Bid to tackle spate of thefts
in rural area

POLICE have warned of a recent rise in numbers of thefts and burglaries in Kirkbymoorside.

North Yorkshire Police are tackling the problem through Operation Hawk, which focuses attention on rural crime and travelling criminals.

The operation is an intelligence-led campaign working with volunteers from the various Rural, Farm and Border Watch schemes, as well as support from key countryside partners such
as the national parks and the
National Farmers’ Union to help spread crime prevention advice.

Sgt Neil Campbell said: “If you see any unusual behaviour which gives you cause for concern, please contact the police straight away.

“Although Ryedale is amongst the safest places to live and work in the country, we need you to report any suspicious activity so that we can respond to it,” he said.

Residents are also warned to follow simple crime prevention
advice to make sure their properties are secure.
