Closure date for group’s last stores

ADMINISTRATORS for discount department store TJ Hughes have announced the last day of trading for its remaining five stores, which include two in Yorkshire.

The Doncaster and Bradford shops, which employ a total of 103 staff, will shut on August 31, next Wednesday.

More than 1,000 jobs with the chain were lost with the closure of 22 stores earlier this month, but more than 700 positions were saved through the sale of six stores, including the Sheffield branch.

Employees affected by the final closures, 50 in Doncaster, and 53 in Bradford, are being offered support and advice through the redundancy process, Ernst & Young said, with assistance from Jobcentre Plus.

Joint administrator Tom Jack said: “A purchaser for these remaining stores was not found and regrettably we have had to schedule these final closures. We are extremely grateful to the employees and management at all the group’s stores for their loyalty and support.”
