Drivers warned over risks of using new Apple Watch at the wheel
The Apple Watch will allow users to make and receive calls and check messages by operating the device on their wrists.
But the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) says this could be a major distraction that significantly impairs driving performance.

Hide AdIAM policy and research director Neil Greig added: “An Apple Watch has the potential to be just as distracting as any other smartphone device.
“Indeed, more so if you have to take your hand off the wheel and your eyes off the road to interact with it.
“Enforcement will be difficult for the police, but powers exist to seize and interrogate devices in the event of a serious crash.”
The spokesman pointed out: “The very device that distracted you also has the power to convict you.”

Hide AdA Department for Transport spokesman said: “Using a mobile phone or any device that distracts a driver while driving is extremely dangerous and is already illegal. We increased the fine to £100 last August for using a mobile phone while driving.
“We are considering a number of further options to deter drivers.”
