Five dogs fall victim to pet poisoner on the same Yorkshire street

A PET poisoner has targeted two homes on the same street killing five dogs in just three months, according to a distraught owner who says the ordeal is forcing her to move house.

Georgina Wetherall says three of her four pets have died and she now fears for the safety of her surviving dog, Paddy.

The incident follow the death of two other dogs on the same street which belonged to her friend.

She said: “Whoever is doing this is the lowest of the low.”

The mother-of-three who lives with husband Darren, 33, and children Zac, 16, Adam 14, and 10-year-old Jessica in Knottingley, arrived home on Monday to find her five-year-old labrador Moz dead on the kitchen floor. Her three-month-old Jack Russell Murphy, who had lived with the family since he was five weeks old, was also lifeless nearby and another of their pets Chloe was foaming at the mouth. She was taken to the vet but could not be saved.

Her friend Emma McGuire, 27, says she was the first to be targeted in January when her dogs Monty and Poppy were killed a month apart. She said: “Monty was just three months old and I found him lifeless in his cage. He’d been playing in the garden just that morning, so when I found six pieces of blackened meat out there I took them to the vets. Monty couldn’t be saved, which broke my heart.”

Vet Michael Shewring said Miss McGuire had shown him pork loin steaks found in their garden which had been coated in “something suitably evil”. He said there was no doubt the dogs had been maliciously poisoned.

West Yorkshire Police are now appealing for information.
