Four Royal weddings and a funeral...

Chief Inspector Duncan Morley started out his career as a teenager on the beat for the nuptials of the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer.

The 49-year-old father-of-two will be one of the force’s most experienced hands for this week’s big occasion as he plays a key role in policing London’s transport lockdown on the big day.

After working on the frontline for the weddings of Charles, the Duke of York, the Earl of Wessex and the funeral of the Queen Mother, Mr Morley is abandoning the force to become a plumber.

But the officer said he hopes his last shift will be a “fantastic day”.

He is likely to be the only officer who will be able to compare the day with the big Royal wedding in 1981.

“I don’t think there is anyone left in the organisation that planned the Charles and Diana operation,” he said. “I love ceremonial events, I always enjoy trooping of the colour and state visits and I think this is one of those.

“My role at the first wedding was to engage the crowd and make sure they were happy and well-behaved. My role at this event is to manage all the traffic for it, making sure that everyone can get around London.”

Despite his unparalleled experience at policing the events, Mr Morley, from Feltham, Surrey, said he is still waiting for a chance to meet a royal.

Meanwhile, a Buckingham Palace guard has been axed from his regiment’s duties on the day after he ranted about Kate Middleton on Facebook.

Scots Guardsman Cameron Reilly, 18, called the bride-to-be a “posh bitch” on the social networking site. He is also being investigated for racist posts.

A spokesman for the MoD said the claims were being investigated.
