Historic house to open for second time

One of Huddersfield’s most historic houses, Briarcourt in Lindley, is set to throw open its doors for only the second time in its history.

Briarcourt, now owned by Kirklees Council, was designed by the celebrated architect Edgar Wood and is just down the road from Lindley Clock Tower, probably the architect’s best-known work in Huddersfield.

The house with its fine interiors, which include decorated ceilings, an inglenook fireplace and a plaster frieze, was built as a home for newly-weds and completed in 1896.

The opportunity to tour the ground floor of Briarcourt on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, has been organised by the Edgar Wood Heritage Group (Yorkshire) and will be by timed ticket available on arrival at the house on those days.

Doors open at 11am and the last entry will be at 3.30pm.
