New light on civil war epic

FANS of Margaret Mitchell’s American civil war epic will be able to see a section of manuscript which has gone on display at a museum, having been thought lost forever.

But anyone interested in catching a look at the rare last four chapters of Gone With The Wind this summer will have to travel to the Atlanta History Centre in the US state of Georgia.

The manuscript, including Mitchell’s own annotations, will go on display alongside letters, her writing desk and first edition copies of the Pulitzer Prize winning book from June 4 to September 5 as part of events to mark the 75th anniversary of the novel’s publication.

Mitchell died aged 48 in 1949 after being struck by a car when crossing a road in Atlanta.
