Odds on that a royal baby will be on the way

SPECULATION THAT the Duchess of Cambridge may be expecting her second child has prompted one bookmaker to suspend betting on a pregnancy announcement.

Prince George celebrates his first birthday next Tuesday but there are rumours a brother or sister could be on the way.

Bookmaker Coral has suspended betting on William and Kate announcing this month they are expecting their second child after a string of bets. Before the firm closed the betting it was offering odds of 10-1 which were slashed to even money before wagers were stopped.

Nicola McGeady, from Coral, said: “With Prince George’s first birthday just around the corner, the latest gamble suggests that he could soon be joined by a little brother or sister. In fact, there could even be double celebrations in the Windsor household next Tuesday.”

William Hill said it had seen a number of small wagers today on the Duke and Duchess announcing they are expecting a second child – with a 2015 birth favourite in the betting.

Odds for a royal baby being born later this year are 10/1, evens for 2015, 6/4 for 2016, 6/1 for 2017 or later. Rupert Adams, a spokesman for the firm, said: “The odds suggest there could well be an announcement soon.”
