Prudential chief could get up to £4.3m bonus

The chief executive of Britain’s biggest insurer, Prudential, could be awarded a bonus worth up to £4.3m this week, it was reported.

The group is expected to post operating profits of £1.7 billion, up 20 per cent from £1.4 billion, in its annual results on Wednesday which would trigger the giant payout for boss Tidjane Thiam, The Sunday Times said.

Prudential’s board has discretion over elements of Mr Thiam’s bonus, but 80 per cent of the sum is determined by financial targets.

The pay deal entitles the chief executive to an annual bonus worth up to 180 per cent of his £900,000 annual salary. A hefty payout is likely to trigger a dispute with some shareholders.
