Region’s pubs boosted by drinkers keen to see their favourite on the map

More than 300 pubs around the region have been nominated for the coveted title of being Yorkshire’s favourite.

Organised by Welcome to Yorkshire, the competition has attracted nearly 3,000 votes – 1,000 more than last year – from drinkers trying to put their local watering holes on the map.

Among the nominees is Fanny’s Ale House in Saltaire near Bradford. Landlord Marcus Lund said: “There has been a real ale revolution which we have been offering for years.

“Since then plenty of people have jumped on the bandwagon which is good. You obviously see a lot of pubs closing down which is very unfortunate but we have stuck at it and are doing more business.”

The first round of voting closes on May 20.

After that, judges will whittle the top 30 pubs down to just 10. Voting will then reopen and drinkers will have another chance to choose a winner.

The overall champion will be announced at the Great Yorkshire Show in July.

The Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub competition is being run in conjunction with the Yorkshire Post.

Nominations can still be made online – at www.yorkshire.com/pub – or by following the link on the Yorkshire Post website.
