Royal opening for Blue Peter garden

Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton with Barney the dog after the Princess Royal opened the Blue Peter garden at its new home in Salford.

Princess Anne, as patron of the Woodland Trust’s Jubilee Woods project, planted a tree and opened the garden at the huge MediaCityUK development.

The show’s garden became known to generations of children, with the original garden designed by Percy Thrower at BBC Television Centre in London, but it was not accessible to members of the public. Tim Levell, editor of Blue Peter, said: “We’re really excited about being able to open up the garden so Blue Peter viewers can come along and visit it.”
