Skype’s the limit for Charles
The Prince of Wales moves forward in the internet age as he makes his first Skype video call over the web.
The heir to the throne was promoting a charity’s efforts to get the elderly to learn to use computers when he peered into a webcam and chatted to a pensioner.
Prince Charles made his call using Skype – a software application that allows voice and video calls over the internet – when he visited the new offices of Age UK. Tavis House in central London was opened by Prince Charles and since the start of the year has been home to staff from Age UK, an organisation formed after the charities Help the Aged and Age Concern merged in 2009. The eight-storey office in Tavistock Square, previously used by the Department of Work and Pensions, is close to the scene of the July 7, 2005 terrorist attack on a bus that killed 13 commuters.
