Touch of blues as UK flops again in song contest

Their song was called I Can, but when it came to the crunch, it turned out that Blue couldn’t.

Hopes of the UK winning its first Eurovision Song Contest since 1997 had been resting on the shoulders of the newly-reformed boyband but after Saturday’s final in Dusseldord, they could do no better than 11th place.

They scored a total of 100 points, however, 10 times more than last year’s British entry Josh Dubovie, who came last.

The contest of 25 nations was won by Azerbaijan with romantic duet Running Scared, performed by Ell and Nikki. Irish twins Jedward, the former X Factor stars James and Edward Grimes came in 8th place with Lipstick.
