Two thirds of us book holidays while at our desks

However the vast majority of are now even taking the step of booking our vacations while at our desks, new research shows.

Nearly two-thirds of workers book their holidays while in the office, with nearly three-quarters admitting they researched their holiday options at work.

More than three-quarters 78 per cent admitted using office facilities to prepare for their holidays, with the printing of travel documents the most common use.

The OnePoll survey for tour operator Cosmos also found that nearly a quarter 24 per cent spent more than one working day each year researching and booking holidays.

Fridays emerged as the most popular day for booking holidays at work, with Mondays the second most common day, the poll found.

Escapism was the most common reason given for researching and booking holidays at work 62 per cent, followed by the convenience of using work facilities 34 per cent

Steven Seddon, of Cosmos, said the results showed a strong desire from workers to break up their daily routine by planning escapes from work.

He said: “Holidays are the ultimate escape and it makes sense that people are keen to search for them during their daily working routine.”

Elsewhere the traditional Easter Bank Holiday getaway looks set to peak today as millions of people return home. The Easter rush combined with the start of many schools terms is set to add to the heavy traffic on the country’s roads.
