Under-age sales could cost licence

A GRIMSBY shop’s alcohol licence will be reviewed by the licensing sub-committee of North East Lincolnshire Council this week after it was caught selling alcohol to children on two occasions.

Wintringham Mini Market, in Wintringham Road, will have its licence reviewed on Wednesday in a meeting at Grimsby Town Hall.

The shop was recently banned from selling alcohol for a 48-hour period after the underage sales were discovered in a series of test-purchases carried out across the borough.

The Mini Market agreed to the closure notice served by the council.

The test purchases were carried out by council officials and officers from Humberside Police in January and February this year.

Any premises found selling alcohol to under-age customers is initially given a formal warning and advice on how to comply with the law.

Those businesses found to have made illegal sales more than once during an 18-month period face a full licence review.

Depending on the outcome of the review the alcohol licence can be restricted, suspended or revoked.
