Union fights ‘savage’ cuts to terms

A HEALTHCARE firm has been accused of trying to “railroad” though a “savage” package of cuts to its 750 employees’ pay and conditions.

Unite says Care Plus Group is trying to make hundreds of thousands of pounds of cuts by tearing up terms and conditions laid down in a national agreement. The union says proposed cuts, including overtime and unsocial hours payments and travel expenses, were not what staff were promised when they transferred to the social business, which provides adult health and social care in north east Lincolnshire, in 2011.

Dave Monaghan, Unite regional officer, said: “Unite will be working with our members to strongly fight these changes.”

In a statement deputy chief executive Jane Miller said: “This consultation is about organisational survival, we want to safeguard the organisation and the services it provides. When Care Plus Group was formed in July 2011, we couldn’t have predicted the extent of these changes being necessary but external factors have made this situation impossible to avoid.”
