University hosts sustainability event

Delegates from more than 40 countries will travel to Hull next year for an international conference on sustainable development.

The 18th International Sustainable Development Research Conference from June 24 to June 26 is expected to attract 350 visitors to the University of Hull.

The university won a competitive bid to hold the conference on behalf of the International Sustainable Development Research Society, which aims to foster and communicate the importance of sustainable development in a global economy. The society is a coalition of academic researchers, teachers, government, non-governmental organisations and industry. The conference, held in New York this year, will be jointly run by the university’s department of geography and the centre for adaptive science and sustainability (CASS).

Professor Stephanie Haywood, conference co-chair and director of CASS, said: “Bringing the conference to Hull is testament to the collective vision of education, business and local government to ensure the Humber region becomes the centre of renewable energy and sustainability in the UK.”
