Variety of tastes catered for in biggest 'Open Art' show

PAINTINGS and sculptures produced by people from across Doncaster have now gone on show in the town's largest "Open Art" festival to date.

Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery's eighth annual exhibition has now opened to the public and will run until Saturday, December 4.

This year more than 180 artists submitted a total of around 420 works to Open Art , the biggest number of entries in the event's history. Judges then whittled those entries down to 280 of the best works, which have been selected for display.

Prizes have also been awarded to the best work in the exhibition and the best piece by an artist aged 16 or under.

The overall winner was Donna Bramall with her cardboard

Tea for Two sculpture, and Natalie Marsh won the children's section with her work "Dinosaurs."

The mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, said: "Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery's Open Art exhibition is a great opportunity for artists of all ages to exhibit in a public gallery.

"The exhibition features something to suit almost

every taste, from large-scale abstract paintings to ceramics, portraits in oils and traditional landscapes in watercolour." Many of the works of art on display in the exhibition are also for sale.
