Vehicle ban call in Peak District lane

COUNTRYSIDE campaigners want people to have their say on plans to close a Peak District lane to vehicles.

The Friends of the Peak District say Chapel Gate at Edale has been wrecked by 4x4s and trail bikes and, as a result, they have been lobbying the Peak District National Park Authority to close the track which skirts Rushup Edge.

The authority now want to hear people's views on introducing a trial temporary ban for 18 months and has launched a consultation, which lasts until January 28.

Planning officer from the Friends of the Peak District John King, said: "We're absolutely delighted that the park authority has listened to us all, and is now consulting about closing Chapel Gate to cars and motorbikes.

"Chapel Gate is in a terrible state and we completely back plans for this ban, and encourage other people to get involved and support it too.

@Never mind 18 months though, we're campaigning for Chapel Gate to be closed permanently."
