Video: Gusts of wind halt world speed record bid at York

STRONG gusts of wind at the former Elvington Airfield near York forced the abandonment of tests for a world speed record attempt today.

The team behind the “Jet Reaction” project hope to break the world land speed record for a two wheeled vehicle in America in September this year.

That would mean their rocket propelled machine traveling at around four hundred miles per hour. The current record stands at just over three hundred and seventy six miles per hour.

Windy conditions make the vehicle unstable and a decision to abort was taken by owner, designer and rider Richard “Rocket Man” Brown just minutes before the first attempted test run.
