Video: ‘Holiday’ for Henry Moore sculpture

A HUGE crane was used to lift an iconic Henry Moore sculpture safely off its plinth yesterday.

For 30 years Reclining Woman: Elbow has looked down on the public from its perch outside Leeds Art Gallery.

It was installed by the Castleford-born sculptor in 1982, but the giant bronze will be put in a crate and shipped out to Amsterdam.

There it will be displayed alongside 13 other Moore sculptures in the gardens of the Rijksmuseum to mark its reopening after a 10-year refurbishment.

Leeds City Council’s executive member for leisure, Coun Adam Ogilivie, said: “It’s going to be a little strange walking past the art gallery and not seeing the sculpture there, but it is long overdue a holiday.” The sculpture is owned by the Henry Moore Foundation who say it will be restored and returned in November.
