Video: Leeds Olympic hopefuls on their moment to shine

THE City of Leeds sends its biggest delegation of Olympians and Paralympians to London this summer, and this afternoon they received a special send off at a civic reception.

The city will be represented by 30 athletes and coaches in the two showpiece events during London 2012.

Flyweight boxer Nicola Adams, the triathlon brothers of Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, and five divers from the City of Leeds Diving Club - Jack Laugher, Rebecca Gallantree, Sarah Barrow, Hannah Starling and Alicia Blagg are all bidding to win Olympic gold.

As well as that there are a trio of athletes who train at Leeds Metropolitan University, race walker Johanna Jackson, marathon man Dave Webb and 1,500m runner Laura Weightman.

Two young men who will represent the GB water polo team hail from Leeds; Adam Scholefield and goalkeeper Ed Scott.

Guiseley-born Debbie Flood competes in the rowing while three members of the weightlifting squad train in Leeds; Jack Oliver, Natasha Perdue and Gareth Evans.

Bound for the Parlympics are Claire Cashmore, David Stone MBE, Ali Jawad and Hannah Cockroft.

Those who weren’t at training camps took enjoyed a civic reception hosted by Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Ann Castle.
