Views sought on future of libraries

A public consultation was launched last month by Sheffield Council, which says it is looking at re-shaping library services to make them fit for what local people require at the same time as keeping them affordable.

Library closures and redundancies have not been ruled out under the changes.

Coun Mazher Iqbal, the authority’s cabinet member for communities and inclusion, said: “We’re keen to get a clear picture of library requirements for the whole city.

“We also want to hear from people who don’t use libraries at the moment but might do in future if our services changed.”

The first session will be held 
at Sheffield Town Hall this 
Friday between 12.30pm and 4pm.

A further session will take place between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Tuesday, September 25.

The future of all 27 community libraries in Sheffield is under review during the consultation, alongside the central library, the archives service and mobile libraries.
