Views sought on open space scheme

PEOPLE living in Sheffield's St Vincent's quarter are being asked to have their say on plans to improve an underused open space between Edward Street and Upper Allen Street.

Proposals have been drawn up which would involve converting the existing ball games area into a green space with sitting walls and terraces, an artificial grass surface for ball games, electrical supplies to support events, new planting, public art and improved lighting.

A drop-in consultation session on the plans is taking place today between noon and 7pm at the reception of the Opal Two block of flats at the corner of St George's Close and Brook Drive, where council officers will be able to provide further information.

Simon Ogden, head of city development at Sheffield Council, said: "We know there is a lack of green open spaces in the city centre especially in areas like St Vincent's that have seen a major growth in residents over the past six years."
