Vitamin warehouse destroyed in fire

FIREFIGHTERS were damping down yesterday at the scene of a massive blaze which destroyed a warehouse full of vitamins and cod liver oil.

The fire broke out in the finished goods unit of the Seven Seas factory in Hull just before 1.40am on Sunday. It continued to burn into the night and yesterday smoke was still pouring from the remains of the buckled building just off Hedon Road.

Fire investigators examined the scene yesterday, but the cause is not thought to be suspicious.

In a statement Seven Seas said it was business as usual: "No employees or fire service personnel were injured during the incident, which was quickly responded to by the on site security team and brought under control by Humberside Fire and Rescue.

"Humberside Fire and Rescue confirmed that at this stage there is no risk to public health from the smoke or any water run off," the statement added.
