Volunteers needed to give sweet insight

THE National Trust is hoping to recruit ex-chocolate industry workers as volunteers at confectionery maker Noel Terry’s former York home which will open to visitors in the summer.

Goddards was the home of the Terry family between 1927 and 1980 and sits on Tadcaster Road, close to the famous factory which closed in 2005.

The National Trust has launched a recruitment drive for former chocolate factory workers or anyone interested in the history of the city’s confectionery industry to help as a volunteer when the house opens on July 21.

The property, which is owned by the National Trust, is being made to look as it did in the 1930s, the heyday of the Terry’s chocolate business.

An open day about volunteering will be held on June 23 between 11am and 3pm. Booking is essential by calling 01904 624247.
