Vow as officer takes over troubled force

THE new head of a crisis-hit police force has pledged his commitment to fighting crime as he takes temporary charge of the force from today.

Deputy Chief Constable Tim Madgwick is taking up the post of Temporary Chief Constable at North Yorkshire Police after the troubled reign of his predecessor, Grahame Maxwell, came to an end yesterday. Both Mr Maxwell and the previous Deputy Chief Constable, Adam Briggs, retired after they became embroiled in a nepotism scandal.

Mr Madgwick pledged to ensure North Yorkshire Police continues to offer a “quality service”, and added: “I will encourage the relentless pursuit of those people who cause, or indeed wish to cause, harm to others and my aim is for us to build safe, confident and resilient communities throughout these difficult and challenging times.”

A permanent replacement for Mr Maxwell is due to be appointed once a new Police and Crime Commissioner is elected in November.
