Walk to escape ‘hustle and bustle’

A NEW walking route around Scunthorpe is being launched tomorrow.

The Ironstone Walk is a nine-mile circular route taking in many of the open spaces and nature reserves in the Scunthorpe and Bottesford areas.

Plans are also being made to extend the walk into a 32-mile circular route taking in the surrounding villages. Sam Roebuck, the chair of the Local Access Forum, said: “In helping plan the Ironstone Walk’s route, I found myself walking footpaths I didn’t know existed.

“It’s remarkable how much green space and wildlife areas we have within the town and just how peaceful it can seem when you’re only a few hundred metres from the hustle and bustle.”

The cabinet member for highways and neighbourhoods at North Lincolnshire Council, Coun Nigel Sherwood, added that maps of the new route, which makes use of the new traffic-free Ridgeway path and also visits Bottesford Beck, are available from the local authority’s website.

Anyone interested in having a guided tour of the new route can meet in the Civic Centre car park in Ashby Road, Scunthorpe, at 10am tomorrow.
