Walkers and runners set for Trot

Hill walkers and off-road runners are flexing their hamstrings for a 24-mile event in Wharfedale next month.

Around 400 people are expected to take part in the Trollers Trot race on Saturday March 10, which starts at Upper Wharfedale School, in Threshfield, that is celebrating its 20th year.

The route heads across Threshfield Moor, Winterburn Reservoir, Rylestone Moor, Barden Tower, Trollers Ghyll and returns to the start via Burnsall and along the banks of the River Wharfe.

There is also a shorter 12-mile course available for walkers only.

Organiser Liam Dunne said: “The origins of the event are as a long-distance walk with a few runners taking part, but over the years it has evolved into more of run, with athletes coming from across the North of England to test themselves against the Yorkshire Dales terrain.

“However, it’s just as much a walking event as a running race, and the advantage of going at a slower pace is that you get far more time to take in the great scenery.”

Entries will be accepted on the day. Full details of the event can be found by visiting the website http://runalong.net
