War hero’s honour to be remembered in ceremony

A commemorative paving stone will be dedicated to Private Charles Hull at The Cenotaph in Harrogate on September 5, to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War hero being awarded the medal. It is part of a campaign to honour all recipients of the Victoria Cross during the Great War and will see stones laid in their birthplaces over the four years of the 100th anniversary of the conflict.

Pvt Hull, of the 21st Lancers and who died in Leeds in 1953, was given the honour for rescuing an officer while fighting in India. He was one of only 628 people to receive the Victoria Cross during the First World War.
