Warning after potentially lethal drugs stolen from vet practice

North Yorkshire Police revealed yesterday that officers had arrested two men in connection with the break-in at the Dale and Vale veterinary surgery in Northallerton.

The two men, aged 36 and 37, have been charged with burglary and a large amount of the drugs were recovered.

However, some of the medication is still unaccounted for and officers are warning people the drugs are potentially dangerous.

Detective Constable Donna Anderson, of Northallerton CID, said: “If you are offered any of the animal drugs for sale you need to be aware that some of these medications can be lethal.

“I would urge drug users to be careful about what they are taking as the animal drugs are not designed for human consumption.”

The burglary happened on Friday, February 22, although the North Yorkshire force only released details yesterday.

It emerged earlier this week that police were investigating another theft of drugs used for treating animals.

The drugs were in a car which was stolen from a veterinary surgery in Upper Poppleton, on the outskirts of York, between 4pm on Sunday and 7.30am on Monday.

Police have warned the drugs are for the treatment of animals and not for human use, and will cause serious health issues and could even prove fatal if used incorrectly.
