Warning to throw out suspect food

The company’s factory in Peterborough has been closed following an investigation by environmental health officers in Hull, who found the drinks had labelling “deficiencies”.

The drinks have also been distributed to shops in Birmingham, Manchester, Leicester, Coventry and Wolverhampton.

The premises were visited by officers from Peterborough Council, who issued a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice, immediately closing the factory. This was followed by a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order granted by magistrates.

Samantha Olive, principal environmental health officer for Peterborough City Council, said: “Anyone who has these items in their homes should throw them away immediately and not drink them. They were not produced in line with food safety requirements and therefore could be contaminated with harmful bacteria which has the potential to make people ill.

“Food and drink manufactures have a duty to follow food safety requirements. We will continue to target businesses that fail to meet these guidelines.”
