Waste disposal developers reveal plans to the public

DEVELOPERS behind hugely controversial plans to create a waste disposal plant – including an incinerator – in the heart of Yorkshire's countryside will face the public this month to try to counter growing opposition.

A series of events has been organised to give campaigners and concerned residents the chance to quiz officials behind the proposals for the multi-million pound plant which is earmarked for a site between Harrogate and York.

Concerns have been raised by local communities that the plans to create the waste plant at Allerton Park will be pushed through later this year. But the project's leaders maintained that they will listen to the public's concerns before North Yorkshire County Council and York Council make a decision in October.

Project director Bill Jarvis said: "We are fully committed to listening to local views and we are undertaking a detailed consultation programme with the local community. "

Detailed plans for the project spanning the next 25 years were unveiled on Tuesday last week under a 900m deal.

A first public exhibition will be at the Crown Hotel in Boroughbridge on Thursday next week between 11am and 7pm, before a second event the following day at the Hospitium in York at the same times.

A third exhibition will be held at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, July 17, while the last event will be at Knaresborough House in Knaresborough from 10am until 6pm on Monday, July 19.
