Waste fine for builder

A LEEDS builder has been fined for illegally dumping waste from a cellar conversion.

Mohammed Farooq, 47, of Beeston, took money from his customers for skip hire but instead allowed temporary workers to dump rubble in bin yards.

His failure to comply with waste disposal laws led to him receiving a £700 fine at Leeds Magistrates Court, along with costs of £750 and a victim surcharge of £15.

On January 9, a police officer spotted a large pile of rubble in a bin yard in Beeston and alerted council officers.

Councillor Mark Dobson, Leeds City Council’s executive member for the environment, said: “Disposing waste is not a trivial matter.”
