Waste plant consultation extended

A PUBLIC consultation on controversial plans for the Environment Agency to issue a permit for a new waste plant at Sheepbridge Industrial Estate in Chesterfield has been extended by a fortnight.

Consultation began earlier this month about the proposed plant, which would recover energy to generate electricity from treated commercial and industrial waste. The decision to extend the consultation period was made following a well-attended drop-in session at Dunston Innovation Centre.

Environment Agency regulatory team leader Ian Foster said: "We have received a lot of interest from the public since the consultation process began so we want to make sure as many people as possible are able to take part."

Documents are available for viewing at libraries around Chesterfield and at the council offices in Rose Hill, as well as on the Environment Agency website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk.
