Weapons and drugs seized in eBay raids

The raids on three properties followed a joint inquiry by Humberside Police and trading standards officers in Milton Keynes and North East Lincolnshire.

Two people were arrested under the Trade Mark Act and another for alleged drug offences after a number of cannabis plants were found.

The technical car manuals were being sold illegally on discs – a counterfeiting offence that costs legitimate businesses millions of pounds in lost revenue.

Karen Ford, head of trading standards at Milton Keynes Council, said: “This investigation is a great example of joint agency working. My officers received fantastic support from Humberside Police and North East Lincolnshire trading standards in the execution of these warrants.

“The counterfeit goods being sold on eBay affected companies located in Milton Keynes, as well as other major UK companies.

“We will continue to take rigorous action against sellers of counterfeit goods. My message is that if you sell counterfeit goods which have an effect on the economy in Milton Keynes we will look to put you before the courts.”

Coun David Bolton, portfolio holder for community safety and neighbourhoods at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Joint working in this way is essential if we are going to clamp down on illegal activity which occurs over the internet.

“Fake goods of this kind are damaging to law-abiding manufacturing and retail businesses, and they are always of inferior quality. If it looks too good to be true it might well be, so be alert when you’re shopping online for bargains.”
