Snow video: North York Moors campers wake up stranded in drifts

A GROUP of campers woke to Arctic scenes on the North York Moors today as they found themselves stranded in 3ft of snow.

Owners of the Marfit Head Farm camp site near Pickering said they were sitting in their shorts and T-shirts enjoying a barbecue this time last week.

Today the snow was drifting waist-deep in places.

Farmer Angela Hodgson said: “There are people camping and it’s 3ft deep.

“They just want to get out and go home, I think.”

Mrs Hodgson said the farm, which is on the A169 between Pickering and Whitby, in North Yorkshire, was used to snow in April but not the amazing contrast in weather conditions.

“We were in our T-shirts and shorts last week having a barbecue,” she said. “Now look at this.”

Mrs Hodgson said the A169 was closed today due to the conditions and the farm had been hit by a power failure.

She said they were trying to get a generator going so the dairy herd could be milked.
