Welcome to spring! (It’s going to snow on Tuesday)

Flurries will greet commuters across the west of the county on Tuesday morning, with a wind chill factor making the six-degree ambient temperature seem more like two degrees, forecasters say.

The weekend will see blustery showers across the UK, with more wintry showers and strong winds are forecast for the next few days. The Pennines, Welsh Hills and Scotland will the snowiest areas, MeteoGroup said.

The sharp change in weather comes after many parts of the country enjoyed warm temperatures and sunshine last weekend.

Rain is expected across southern and eastern parts of England tonight, while the rest of the country will remain dry but chilly.

The rain will clear away to leave colder but brighter weather with sunny spells and blustery showers for Friday, MeteoGroup said.

More scattered showers are forecast for the weekend, particularly in the North and West, but it should become drier and brighter by Sunday.

Tom Tobler, forecaster for MeteoGroup said: “From tonight rain will be moving south east across the country although it will be mostly cleared by the morning. It will turn cold and breezy as the rain clears away.

“Wintry showers are forecast mostly over Scotland with snow falling on the hills. There is also a chance of snow over the Pennines and possibly the Welsh Hills tomorrow night.

“It will be chilly in the North and breezy everywhere”.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Mr Tobler added: “It’s going to be fairly cool, especially in the north. There will be some sun but on Saturday most places will see some showers, particularly in the North and West.

“There will be a few showers on Sunday and temperatures will remain fairly cool. It definitely won’t be as warm as recent weekends we’ve had.”
