Web exclusive: Leeds as we knew it... Rediscovered video from the 1950s
Recorded by photographer and retired teacher Brian Ormondroyd, this 1958 cine film is a quick tour of the city highlights and takes in The Headrow, Briggate, The Majestic Cinema (which later became a nightclub), the Odeon and more.
Filming from a vehicle as his friend drove, Mr Ormondroyd captures a nostalgic vision of Leeds.

Showing minastays such as the town hall and civic hall, there is also the 'modern' buildings of the University of Leeds and the Leeds Playhouse - very much buildings of their time.
As the camera pans around Park Square, just to show that some things do not change, there's a glimpse of some potentially unfortunate motorist's car being checked by a parking attendant!
So, sit back and enjoy a trip round the Leeds many of us knew and which younger viewers will still recognise.
