Why hollow sheep are flocking to Skipton

Sheep are to take up residence in Skipton this autumn to encourage people to visit the historic market town off season.

Visitors will be able to follow a unique trail around the town's main landmarks and hidden gems as an outdoor arts project takes to the streets.

locations across the town whose name is the medieval derivation of 'Sheep Town'.

The sculptures are set to form a high- profile attraction aimed at keeping visitors coming to the town between the main summer tourist season and Christmas.

Town centre manager Brett Butler said: "Skipton has fared better than

some in the recent economic climate, but it has still been really tough for businesses and we need to do everything we can to keep bringing people to the town."

Schoolchildren and community groups will be given a chance to design their own sheep for a separate trail around town- centre shops.
