‘Witness in murder trial was punched’

A WITNESS to a murder trial told how he was punched in the face just before the 34-year-old victim was fatally attacked in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Ryan Russell told Hull Crown Court he had said to two men who were speaking aggressively to one of his group: “We don’t want no trouble.”

But then one of them him on the cheek. As a friend pulled him away he looked back and saw Steven Herbert being attacked by the pair before he fell to the ground. He said: “I just remember them grabbing him and punching him.”
